I registered my first domain name, FritzNet.com, in April, 1999, and had a website up two months later.

I guess I was pretty fascinated by the whole concept of websites and online publishing. Although it wasn’t the way I made my living, I spent a fair amount of time educating myself and thinking about the possibilities.

And Then I Invented WordPress

Kidding, of course, but I did create my own CMS (content management system) before that was even a “thing.” Using just notepad and an FTP program, I set up a website that enabled users to register as “content providers” and submit links and articles that were relevant to the site. That content was stored in a mySql database, and retrieved as needed, at which time pages were automatically generated by PHP and sent back to the user.

That site was in live in April of 2001, which was two years before WordPress (which now powers 26% of the internet) was born.

A missed opportunity, I guess. : )

Ok, Back to Now…

Most, but not all of the website work I have done has been in the WordPress space. WordPress is a platform that enables users around the world to contribute themes and plugins, enabling the user to quickly implement sites with the look and feel, and the functionality, that they need, and most of it is free.

My technical skillset includes, of course, PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Because of my corporate IT background, I also have experience in SQL database design and queries, which comes into play when custom development is called for.

My most recent project was writing an extensive WordPress plugin, which uses about a dozen custom post types, 50 or 60 custom fields, a number of external tables, and about 20 shortcodes.
